Unfortunately, sometimes I have to be an ass and ban someone. Some say I do it too often, others say I don’t do it often enough but face it guys, there are no winners in this situation. Banning people or issuing jail time is no fun for both parties. We have rules that we ALL have to follow… guests, regulars, donators and sponsors and staff alike..
Today has been a hectic day to say the least and yes, I have banned someone…Thetonestarr to be specific (for using fly mod). He was not pleased about this. As per usual like others do, he complained about it and wrote to Joe and Jay. I usually don’t do this kind of thing but I have the feeling I have to share it for once. The following is his manifesto:
“You can’t dictate that your players HAVE mods – you can dictate
whether they actively USE them. With that said, you also can’t
penalize someone for accidentally hitting the wrong button, especially
when you DO allow mods if people shell out cash to your coffers.
Yet, Tempus harasses everybody and anybody that ever does anything at
all, and bans them if he feels like it. Even if they’re worthwhile,
contributing members of the community.
It’s a losing situation. You need to reel him in.”
I want to go through his letter with you all to clear the air about certain things. So, let’s do this paragraph for paragraph.
He is absolutely right…we can’t tell people not to have mods installed but we can tell them that they are not allowed to use them. We have been doing this for quite some time with pretty damn good results. We do not penalize anyone for accidentily hitting a button that activates a mod, we warn them not to do it. If they keep using it, we will either jail or kick that person. Luckily in most cases a warning is enough. In this case, it was not the first time the author of the note used this mod. He has been hitting the button ‘by accident’ quite a few times over the past couple of days and I warned him many many times for that, yet this is not why I banned him. I banned him because he called me a “dumbass” after I gave him another warning for trying to use it. I am open to debate on anything up to a certain level but I am not here to be called names when I am only doing what I am supposed to do. Also, on a side note, the reason we allow people to use fly mod when they donate is exactly that – they donate! We see it as a thank you for helping to support the server and keeping us afloat. Because they go the extra mile for us, we give them something for it in return. Nobody is forced to donate…you can play, have fun and get an amazing experience on this server without ever spending a dime. Nobody is forcing anyone to donate, those who choose to do so deserve some perks as a thank you from all of us. Their donations make it possible that we ALL can play here. Don’t complain about it, be grateful.
This brings me to his second paragraph, me. I have a bad reputation. I am loved by some, hated by most and I am fine with it. I do not tolerate any kind of disrespectful behavior from anyone. All I want is to be treated like how you want to be treated yourself. If you act like an ass, I will act like an ass with a banhammer. I enforce the rules we have set-up strictly to all players, new or old. If people just have fun and follow the rules then there is no problem. If the vibe on the server is good and general attitude of people is cool, I will even let a minor offense like caps slide or other little things like that. However, that does not take away the fact that when me and Kay are the only mods online (in a 25 people filled server and stuff is going crazy) that I will be a hardass. It’s as simple as that.
Now, let’s get to his last sentence. As he states, it’s a losing situation with me as Staff, I need to be reeled in. I have been staff since forever. I started way back on the old server as undercover staff to flush out the bad seeds. This is something I was successful with. As time went by, the need that my name had the Staff prefix became greater eventually naming me as Staff. Overall, if Joe and Jay were not happy with the way I did my job they would not keep me as Staff.

I agree with all that you said Temp, you had every right to ban…whoever that guy was.
I think every server needs someone who is man enough to make the decision to ban someone because without some form of discipline the server is just gonna be overrun with idiots!

Temps, Dont listen to him, you dont need to be reeled in. without you, the server would be 10x worse with greifers and modders when joe or jay aren’t on. you keep the maturity in the server.

Don’t know if it will show my IGN, but this is Vyconis. I’m all for the staff and admins on our server. Anyone that wants to get out of line, they can go fine somewhere else to play. Yes, we do have an awesome server, but it’s because of great admins, staff and certain members that make it what it is. That’s why the maturity factor is a big thing. At least for me it is, lol! ^_^ I’m behind you 100% Tempus.

Tempus, I’ve been playing on a2z about a week now. In this short time every impression I have had of you has been great. You always seem friendly to me and I can tell you take your job seriously. With a server of this size, you have to keep the rule-breakers off. I have seen a handful or bans in the past week, and every single time I thought: “They definitely deserved that.” Keep up the great work, a2z is a fantastic server and that has to be in part because of your help.

TEMPUS! just wait until you here the latest ban. after saying ni**a he was given a warning. it was a racial term, and i would have just banned him. Thats serious.

after asked to stop, he went on saying ni**a multiple times then saying”you want your fried chicken?” At that point he was banned for spamming and cussing

I think that you a fine member of the staff team Temp. Honestly, some people just get whiny. As you said, if someone is an ass to you, then you are an ass to them plus a banhammer. I respect the work you do and what you do for this server.

I remember when you were an undercover staff player and i had no idea until about a week before you were made into an official member of the staff team
i have always got along with you and have always helped you enforce rules ^_^
Don’t feel like you have to reason with every little rule breaker who complains because to be perfectly honest we have an amazing server and people rage when they cheat and abuse and get banned because they realize that they have just pissed away one of the most entertaining, funny, awesome servers out there!
oh and side note to back up one of temp’s points – im ranked 7th on the server and i donated for 2 months and ive played here for about 4
it might even be 5 im not too sure lol
TO CONCLUDE:
Temp don’t stoop down to their level, let them moan and be pissed off its not your job to reason, its your job to enforce ^_^

Tempus, i think you are doing a fine job as staff and that you should keep doing as you are. You state that you will in this post and remind everyone that you are a No-bull guy. Who just so happens to have the power of the ban hamma. Unfortunatly, due to a bug, i am unable to go on the server. If someone could reset my position to the spawn or something like that it would be appreciated.
